To get started with the mobile dimensioning app "Dimmy," follow these steps:
1. Acquire a Compatible Device
Compatible devices include:
- iPad Pro (2020 or later)
- iPhone Pro V13, V14, or V15
2. Create an Account for the Free Trial
3. Download Dimmy on Your Mobile Device
- Next, download Dimmy in the app store on your mobile device (iPad Pro from 2020 onwards, iPhone Pro V13, V14 or V15)
4. Review Guidelines for Successful Scans
Before you start scanning, make sure to review all the guidelines to avoid failed & inaccurate scans.
Dimensioning Guidelines
Pallet Dimensioning Guidelines
Take a minimum of 2 scans of the pallet from different sides. If any part remains outside the bounding box, tap it until the entire pallet is enclosed. Feel free to tap multiple times until it fits.
- Initial Positioning: Stand directly in front of the pallet with the entire pallet visible in the camera view of your device, then tap the pallet to begin the dimensioning
- Alternate View: Move to the side of the pallet and tap the pallet again, ensuring that this time only the far end of the pallet is as clear as possible in your device's camera view.
- Adjust for Overhang (Optional): If there is any part of the pallet that extends beyond the green bounding box on your screen (overhang), you need to move your position around this overhang and tap on it until the green bounding box correctly encloses the entire pallet. You can keep on tapping.
- Manual Adjustment (Optional): You have the option to manually adjust the green bounding box if needed to ensure it accurately fits the dimensions of the pallet.
- Stability While Tapping: It's important to keep the device steady while tapping the screen to ensure accurate measurement.
Pallet Presets
If you’re using standardized pallets with no overhang, you can utilize pallet presets to fast-track the pallet dimensioning process by dimensioning a pallet with a single scan.
By standardizing the pallet's width and depth, you only need to capture the height. For example, if your operations use Euro Pallets (1200mm × 800mm or 31.50” × 47.24”), you can create a preset for this specific size. This preset allows the user to only measure the height of the pallet, as the width and depth are already known, assuming there is no overhang.
Watch a tutorial video on how to add pallet presets & use them in scanning.
SKU Scanning Guidelines
Video tutorials for SKU dimensioning:
- Scan the object from above
- Maintain a minimum distance of 25cm from the object.
- Do not move the device when taking the scan. Keep the device still.
- Place the object on a flat surface (e.g., table). Make sure the object is 10 cm from the edge of the table and that there are no other objects around the object you want to scan
